An electrical problem has caused a brief interruption to air conditioning service on parts of the Homewood campus. The power has now been restored, and indications at this point are that cooling service will be back to normal before any temperature change becomes noticeable to most building occupants.

The electrical outage affected the south power plant and adjacent Whitehead Hall. The south power plant is one of two locations on campus where water is chilled for air conditioning. The other location, the north chiller plant, remained in operation throughout the electrical outage. Building cooling on campus was switched to “winter mode,” ensuring that server rooms and other areas where cooling is a priority were covered. The switch back to normal “summer mode” operations will occur soon.

The campus incident command team is monitoring the situation; we will communicate with you again if developments warrant.

Questions or concerns can be directed to Plant Operations at (410) 516-8063 or facilities@jhu.edu.
